Hello and welcome to the forums!
I will be honest with you, I do not believe in homeopathy. I believe in science and proven results. Unfortunately, homeopathy has never been scientifically proven to provide positive results beyond what you would expect from the placebo effect. Here is a programme I watched ages ago on the BBC, which actually was really good:
BBC Horizon: Homeopathy (Youtube Video)
Many people believe in homeopathy, and there is nothing that can be said or done to convince them otherwise… I hope I have not upset your feelings in any way. I just needed to express my opinion, because I feel there are a lot of people who are being ripped off, paying a lot of money for homeopathic remedies which are giving them no real results whatsoever.
Now, there ARE indeed a few remedies and tools which I am happy to recommend, because not only there is scientific research showing they work, but I also use them regularly myself with very good results.
Rhinitis (runny nose) caused by allergies or otherwise, post-nasal drip and recurrent sinus infections can be alleviated with nasal irrigation. In fact, many professional athletes use it to help decongest their noses for optimal breathing and hence optimal performance.
Here is a post I have written, where I review a couple of sinus irrigation systems.
I find nasal irrigation to be very effective. If – even with a hypertonic saline solution (which is the strongest type) you cannot find relief, there is a product called Alkalol which many people (including myself!) find incredibly effective to reduce nasal congestion, post nasal drip and to help get rid of sinus infections (to use instead of a saline solution).
Regarding antihistamines, they have also been shown to be good alleviating excess mucous, runny nose and post-nasal drip. I would recommed nasal irrigation before antihistamines, without hestitation. However, it may not be for you, so you may want to try 2nd generation antihistamines which do not make your mouth dry (as this actually worsens bad breath!). I find that Cetirizine (10 mg) works quite well for me with no side effects that I can notice.
I hope this helps!
